The Sunrisers became one of the very few examples of a franchise winning a new competition for each of the first two editions, when doing so in 2024.

If the Sunrisers are a side who make the absolute most of their resources, then MI Cape Town are pretty much the polar opposite.
They’re one of the richest squads ever put together in T20 franchise cricket, which explains their popularity as a team to bet on, even if results haven’t reflected the quality of their players. They did after all finish rock bottom in both of their two seasons to date.
They made the somewhat curious decision to appoint the prolific wicket-taker that is Rashid Khan as captain when they had more experienced men available for the role and so far, it hasn’t worked out, with the Afghan having too much on his plate.
With the bat Dewald Brevis, Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen are the main men while Khan, Kagiso Rabada and Trent Boult are their best bowlers. George Linde and Azmatullah Omarzai are two of the best all-rounders in this format.
Durban’s Super Giants
The Super Giants tick a lot of boxes for what you need to be a successful T20 side.
For starters, they have a very capable coach in Lance Klusener, the former Proteas all-rounder who has had experience of coaching T20 teams the world over. In Allan Donald (bowling) and Jonty Rhodes (fielding) they also have two more home-based coaches offering invaluable support to the players.
And in Keshav Maharaj they have a calm and inspiring leader who knows South African players and pitches like few others; so they’re certainly in good hands in that regard, too.
Joining Maharaj as a frontline spinner is Noor Ahmad, the Afghan spinner who takes plenty of wickets and keeps batsmen guessing with his variations. Dwaine Pretorius has seen it all before at this level, too.
Best of all, they have Heinrich Klassen, arguably the best white-ball batter in the world bar none, who can turn any game on its head.
They finished runners-up in 2024 and it’s surely only a matter of time before they go one better.

No-one has scored more runs in the first two editions of the tournament than the powerful, yet classy, Klassen, with 810. For good measure, he also holds the record for the most sixes, with 54.

And no-one has taken more wickets than Baartman, with 30. In the middle of such international stars, it’s the local lad who keeps on taking wickets at all stages of the innings, as well as keeping the runs down.
Marco Jansen
And now to the man who does the lot. Jansen not only takes wickets with the new ball but can also save his team from precarious positions in the middle-order with some ferocious hits. He was key to the Sunrisers’ wins in each of the first two editions.
