Why Your Betting Account Was Suspended or Reviewed

You open your betting account before a big PSL weekend, ready to place the same R50 acca you usually play, only to find that something is wrong. Instead of being greeted by the sports page on your favourite betting site, you get a notice saying that your account is under review.

You might not understand why at first. Maybe that big win you tried to withdraw had something to do with it? It's usually something much less dramatic hidden somewhere in the terms and conditions that most people skip over.

Why Betting Accounts Get Reviewed

You decide one weekend that your usual R50 bet on the PSL has gotten too routine and it's time to change things up. So you deposit R2,000, place bets on markets you have never tried before, and try your hand at live betting. Compared to your normal betting habits, that sudden change may appear unusual to the bookmaker.

This can also happen if:

  • The name or details on the documents suddenly do not match what was used on the account.
  • You suddenly start logging in from a different phone or location than usual.
  • A verification document has expired or has been rejected
  • Multiple accounts in the same household use bonus offers
  • A big withdrawal on an account that hasn't been used in awhile

Most sportsbooks explain these checks in their terms and conditions, but many people only discover them when their account is reviewed. [1]

What Makes Bettors Think Reviews Are Random

Timing is part of the problem. A lot of people only realise something is wrong when they suddenly try to withdraw money or place bigger bets than usual. It could be before a big EPL weekend, when you're trying to withdraw winnings, or when you open a casino game after months. The bettor feels like it's random because the account worked fine before.

Expired documents, unfinished verification processes, or rejected ID uploads can all limit access to parts of your account without warning.

When the review only starts after a payout request, it is easy to see why people become suspicious.

Do Big Wins Trigger Account Reviews?

It is no secret that winning streaks happen. Sometimes a bookmaker might decide to check a few things to make sure there is nothing illegal going on.

It might have to do with gambling regulations or even responsible gambling. Big wins and winning streaks can cloud people’s judgement. licensed sportsbooks have a responsibility to make sure that everything is above board and the bettor is making good choices.

It could even come down to financial laws. Before they can pay you out any money, they have to make sure that they have confirmed your identity and banking details. They also need to report any suspicious activity and large withdrawals.

The best place to start is by contacting customer support and finding out exactly why the account is under review or suspended. Half the frustration comes from not knowing what caused the review in the first place.

When they can, they will explain what you have to do next. It could be as easy as uploading your bank statement. If it isn’t something that you can do, you will have to wait for the review process to finish. In the meantime, take screenshots and keep records of anything you have that you think will help.

Sometimes the answer is sitting in the terms and conditions people rushed through while opening the account. What you should never do is try to find a way to work around the rules. Trying to open another account or use someone else's details is only going to make things worse.
