Ivorian teenager Yan Diomande has completed a historic move to Real Madrid from RB Leipzig in a deal understood to be worth around €140 million, including add-ons, making him the most expensive African player in football history.

The highly rated youngster attracted interest from several of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City.

However, Diomande, together with his agent Nathan Campbell, ultimately decided that Real Madrid was the right destination for the next chapter of his career.

Campbell, Roc Nation Sports International’s Head of Global Football Recruitment and Diomande’s agent, believes the transfer is a reflection of the teenager’s determination and ambition.

“This monumental move to Real Madrid is a testament to Yan’s incredible work ethic, and we couldn’t be prouder to play a part in facilitating the largest transfer for an African player in football history," Diomande's agent told SportsBoom.co.za in an exclusive interaction.

Campbell added that the move represents the values of Roc Nation Sports International and its ambition to help athletes reach the highest levels of their careers.

“It represents the core of what we strive for at Roc Nation Sports International by empowering our athletes to reach the highest peaks of their careers both on and off the field. We thank all parties who helped seal this historic deal, and we cannot wait for the exciting journey ahead at the Bernabéu.”

Dreaming of Being the Best

Roc Nation Sports International co-founder Michael Yormark has played a key role in managing high-profile athletes across several sporting disciplines, and he is excited about what lies ahead for the young Ivorian.

Yormark revealed that Campbell sat down with Diomande to discuss his dreams and aspirations before mapping out a pathway to achieve them.

“Nathan [Campbell] sat down with Yan, and they spoke about his dreams and aspirations. Yan said, ‘I want to be the best player in the world, I want to win a Ballon d’Or, and I want to win trophies. My biggest [dream] was always to play for Real Madrid.’”

Those ambitions may have played a significant role in Diomande choosing the Spanish giants. Real Madrid's history of producing Ballon d’Or winners and competing for major trophies aligns closely with the teenager's ambitions.

The Spanish club had reportedly seen an earlier bid of €100 million rejected by Leipzig, who wanted a higher fee for their prized youngster. Liverpool were also interested, but the eventual price tag proved too high.

Yormark believes the transfer is the result of carefully planning around Diomande's long-term ambitions.

“We had to put together the right blueprint to achieve his dream. We put together a team around the young player. This [move to Real Madrid] is a big moment for all of us as well. We took a young man with ambition and made it a reality.”

Reflecting on Roc Nation Sports International's growth, Yormark said the company has always been focused on representing exceptional talent and helping athletes fulfil their ambitions.

“I started this company almost seven years ago. Our goal was to represent and produce quality players around the world. We want to be at the table with the biggest clubs around the world.”

He added: “It revolves around one thing, making the dream of the player come true. That’s it, that’s all we care about.”

Yormark also made it clear that the company intends to continue searching for elite talent across the globe.

“We want to sign more high-end, special and unique players around the world.”

For Diomande, the record-breaking transfer represents the reward for years of sacrifice and hard work.

“Yan has put in the work, made sacrifices to make his dream a reality.”

The Ivorian becomes the latest high-profile addition to Real Madrid's squad this summer, following the arrival of José Mourinho and a number of other notable signings, including Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries, Bernardo Silva, Marc Cucurella and Carlos Espí.

For Diomande, however, the biggest prize is not the record transfer fee. It is the opportunity to walk through the doors of the Santiago Bernabéu and begin pursuing the dream he has carried since childhood, becoming the best player in the world.
