From Defense to Dreaming Big: Ola Aina on Nottingham Forest’s Stellar Run and Personal Evolution
Nottingham Forest's Ola Aina shines in the Premier League with a crucial goal against Brentford. In an exclusive interview, he praises the team's grit, discusses his new tactical role, and dreams of European success. With solid defense and teamwork, Forest is exceeding expectations and igniting fans' hopes.

Ola Aina, Nottingham Forest
In a season of transformation and triumph, Nottingham Forest's Ola Aina has emerged as a key figure in the club’s unexpected Premier League ascent.
With a crucial goal in Forest’s 2-0 victory over Brentford, ending their unbeaten home streak, Aina continues to solidify his reputation as a defensive powerhouse.
In this exclusive interview with SportsBoom.com, the Super Eagles defender opens up about the team's remarkable journey, his tactical adaptability, and the growing ambition within the Forest camp.
“We Dug Deep”: Stopping Brentford’s Home Dominance
Reflecting on the win over Brentford, Aina highlighted the team’s grit and determination.
“It is, it is. The scoreline was 2-0, but we dug deep for that. We worked hard, but it was a good game and good three points,” Aina said.
The clean sheet was no accident but the result of a deliberate and disciplined approach.
“Yeah, you know, we had to stay solid. That was, obviously, that's been the aim of the season, but especially for today's game, it was just to stay really solid and compact, and we executed that well.”
Adapting to New Roles: The Wing-Back Experiment
This season has seen Aina take on a new tactical role in Forest’s three center-back system, playing as a wing-back, a departure from his traditional positioning.
“Yeah, yeah, slightly different. Like you said, we normally close games out with that one, but we started with it today. We thought, you know, we’ll just be a bit more aggressive on counter-attacks, and it worked in parts of the game,” he explained.
The switch brought defensive solidity and attacking opportunities.
“Obviously being solid at the back with the five and the three center-halves there, it was really good. So, all in all, it was a good day, and it worked out.”
“Cultured” Goal: A Manager’s Vision Executed Perfectly
Aina’s goal was a moment of brilliance, but not entirely unplanned.
“The gaffer did say that, you know, when you have a full-back on the ball in the crossing areas, I’ve got to get in the box and be in and around it just to affect it a bit. And Luckily, it fell to me, and I, you know, just put it in the back of the net.”
Describing his finish with a grin, he added, “Cultured, wasn’t it? It was a cultured one, you know. Nothing too fancy, just get me a side foot. Cool, no? So, it was all right.”
Brentford’s Challenge and Forest’s Unity
Despite the win, Aina acknowledged the difficulty of facing a resilient Brentford side.
“Sometimes it gets a bit difficult, and it did. It did at times. It did get difficult for us. But we were a strong unit again today and kept a clean sheet, and it paid off. The most important thing is we won today, so that’s all that matters.”
Looking Ahead: European Dreams for Nottingham Forest?
With three consecutive wins, 31 points on the board, and a fourth-place standing in the Premier League ahead of Christmas, Forest’s dreams are growing larger.
“You don’t know. We actually don’t know. And it’s really good what we’re doing and just focusing on ourselves and taking it game by game,” Aina said.
But the team isn’t shying away from ambition. “It is good to dream a little bit, you know. So as long as we work hard and just keep our heads and not get too carried away, then I’m sure things should be fantastic come May.”
A Season of Promise
Ola Aina and Nottingham Forest are proving to be one of the most compelling stories of the Premier League season. With a mix of tactical evolution, teamwork, and individual brilliance, the team is not only defying expectations but also igniting dreams of European football.
As Aina puts it, “It’s good to dream a little bit,” and with performances like this, Forest fans have every reason to believe.
