MI Cape Town batter, Dewald Brevis, currently finds himself in the top ten of the SA20 leading run scorers this season and has played an important hand in MI Cape Town qualifying for Saturday night’s final at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.

This season, the 21-year-old has put together a tally of 253 runs including two half-centuries. Those half-centuries have come in very important games - the tournament opener against the defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape and the first qualifier against Paarl Royals.

    INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES

In an exclusive interview with SportsBoom ahead of the final, Brevis opened up about his individual performances this season.

The young top-order batter emphasized that he has been doing a lot of technical work behind the scenes in preparation for the ongoing third season of the SA20.

“This year’s been fantastic. I’ve really enjoyed playing. I think the team is really doing well together and we are having a good time on and off the field,” Brevis told SportsBoom.com.

“When it comes to my personal batting and game, it was really hard work. I did a lot of hard work behind the scenes. I found a few things that work for me, a few pointers and I’ve worked on a few technical things. I play with a smile and I’m grateful that this season has been going well.”

    THE COACHING STAFF

The young batter has lauded the MI Cape Town coaching staff including head coach Robin Peterson and batting coach Hashim Amla for clarity in communication and for sharing their knowledge throughout the tournament.

“All our coaches, Hashim and Robbie, they’ve been clear. Whenever there’s a small bit of advice, they’ve communicated it well,” said Brevis.

“It was lots of fun and we all get along very well. They’re great coaches, they’ve got great plans and great experience as well so you learn from that. Even when you’re off the field, you spend lots of time speaking to them, just hearing what they have to say.”

    THE 2025 TEAM

Having gone through the first two seasons of the tournament without virtually no success, finishing bottom of the table in both campaigns, MI Cape Town has made a complete turn-around this season, finishing top of the standings and being the first team to qualify for the final.

Brevis told SportsBoom that this year’s team is special and that they all have one common goal, to give their best in every single match.

“It’s a special team. We’re all great mates and we share special bonds all of us. We share lots of memories off the field that we’ve created this year and on the field just as much,” said Brevis.

“We all buy into one goal and that is to give our best even guys that haven’t played have been unbelievable. It would be fantastic if we can win the trophy but we’re excited for whatever lies ahead and we can’t wait for it.”

    THE FINAL

Going into the final on Saturday, Brevis urged his teammates to not change much in their approach but to keep enjoying playing together.

“I think we all need to keep doing what we’re doing,” he reiterated. “We need to keep enjoying the game, stay in the moment and not think too far ahead, take it ball-by-ball and keep doing what we’re doing.”
