In a season filled with triumphs and trials, Cricket South Africa (CSA) is celebrating a fitting reward for the leadership that guided the game through it all.
CSA CEO Pholetsi Moseki has been nominated for Administrator of the Year at the prestigious South African Sports Awards, a recognition that caps off a memorable 2024/25 season for cricket in the country.
The nomination comes on the back of a historic season that saw South Africa lift the ICC World Test Championship Mace, strong performances across all formats, and key developments in domestic structures. For Moseki, the recognition is shared with the broader CSA ecosystem.
“This represents the work of multiple individuals within and outside of CSA, including our Affiliates,” said Moseki.
“All have worked hard not only to stabilise cricket in South Africa but also to put building blocks in place to ensure the sport thrives in our country. I am proud to receive this nomination on behalf of all of them.”
Moseki will compete for the award alongside Gavin Crooks, President of Tennis South Africa, and Hezekiel Sepeng, Head of Performance at Athletics South Africa, two influential administrators in their own right.
Season of Highs and Headwinds
The 2024/25 cricket season was a rollercoaster, with standout moments on the field and strategic milestones off it. Under Moseki’s leadership, CSA navigated a complex landscape, achieving both growth and stability amid financial and structural challenges.
“It was a season with many highs, on and off the field,” Moseki told SportsBoom.co.za.
“From our national teams’ performances in ICC events, to the excitement in domestic men’s cricket, the embedding of the professional women’s domestic league, the success of SA20, and the strengthening of our administration both at CSA and across our Affiliates.”
Yet, Moseki remains candid about the difficulties sport and cricket specifically faces.
“Cricket, like many other sports, faces serious headwinds: economic and sponsorship challenges, financial and sustainability pressures, geopolitical issues, player retirements, and a congested international calendar. Navigating those is an ever-present challenge.”
Eyes on the Future: 2025/26 and Beyond
With no home series for the senior national teams in the immediate calendar, CSA's focus is now shifting to strategic preparations for major events on the horizon, including the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, which South Africa will co-host.
“Preparing for the ICC 2027 World Cup and creating public awareness and excitement for this massive event is a key priority,” Moseki confirmed.
“We are also focused on ensuring both our National Teams are fully supported for their respective ICC World Cups in the subcontinent later this year and early next year.”
Domestically, a packed season awaits, with the continued growth of women's cricket and implementation of CSA’s long-term sustainability plan at the forefront.
“We're preparing for a bumper domestic season, including inbound tours for the Proteas Women, and finalising our sustainability framework to ensure cricket in South Africa remains strong for generations to come.”
Pholetsi Moseki’s nomination stands as a testament to both his steady leadership and the collective effort of CSA to revitalise cricket in South Africa. As the sport prepares for an exciting new chapter both at home and on the global stage, CSA’s administration is laying down the foundation for lasting success.
Whether or not he takes home the award, the impact of his tenure is already being felt throughout South African cricket.
