Exclusive: Dream Come True: Tanimu Benjamin Thrilled with Crawley Town Debut

Nigerian defender Tanimu Benjamin took a significant step in his football journey by making his debut for Crawley Town in an EFL League Two match against Reading on Saturday, October 19.

Tanimu, 22, joined Crawley Town from Tanzanian side Singida Black Stars during the summer transfer window for an undisclosed fee.

Long-Awaited Debut

After being an unused substitute in two previous matches, Tanimu finally made his long-awaited debut, coming on as a substitute in the 83rd minute at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

The young defender replaced Joy Mukena with just seven minutes left in regulation time, visibly excited as he stepped onto the pitch for his first taste of English football.

Embracing the Moment

Reflecting on his debut, Tanimu shared his joy in an interview with SportsBoom.com: “It was amazing to finally step onto the pitch. It’s a dream come true - I’ve always wanted to play in England, and I’m grateful to the club for giving me this chance.”

Despite the challenges of adapting to a new league, Tanimu expressed optimism about his progress.

First Impressions of English Football

In his brief time on the field, Tanimu completed four passes, won a tackle, and conceded a foul, getting a firsthand experience of the fast-paced nature of English football.

He acknowledged the intensity, stating, “As I’ve always said, English football is one of the best in the world. No matter the division, the intensity is incredible, and I loved every moment.”

Crawley Town’s Struggles Continue

Unfortunately for Tanimu, his debut came during a difficult outing for Crawley Town, who suffered a 4-1 defeat to Reading.

The loss extended Crawley’s winless streak to nine games, with six consecutive defeats under manager Rob Elliot.  Despite the tough result, Tanimu remains positive about his future contributions.

Optimism for the Future

Though disappointed by the team's performance, Tanimu believes in the squad’s potential to improve.

“The game was tough and didn’t go our way, but Reading are a strong side, and we had some good moments,” he reflected. ”We’re missing a few small details, but we hope to turn these performances into positive results soon.”
