It’s every golfer’s dream to play in The Masters at the hallowed grounds of Augusta National, and for South African Casey Jarvis that’s what awaits in just a couple of weeks.
Jarvis completed the incredible feat of winning two weeks in a row at The Sa Open at the beginning of March, following his win at the Kenya Open a week before.
Not only was it a stunning run of golf, the victories were also his first on the DP World Tour, where even one triumph can define a career.
The SA Open win was especially significant though, as it earned Jarvis an invitation to both the Masters and The Open Championship later this year.
Jarvis Reflects on SA Open Victory and Upcoming Masters Experience
For the 22-year-old, it’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks.
“Yeah, it sounds amazing [to be called the SA Open champion]. Crazy last couple of weeks. Obviously, to be standing here at Houghton as SA Open Champion is truly a dream come true,” Jarvis told SportsBoom.co.za in an exclusive interview.
“It hasn't sunk in yet. I think going to the Masters has sunk in, so that's going to be super special and epic. I can’t wait. Watching all these years on TV at Augusta is crazy."
“And to be going there, I think it's going to be a special week.”
Inspired by Jayden’s Success on the DPWT
While Jarvis’ two successive wins are incredibly rare for any golfer on the DPWT, his compatriot and fellow youngster Jayden Schaper achieved the same feat in December with victories at the Alfred Dunhill Championship and then the Mauritius Open.
Those triumphs were also Schaper’s first two on the DPWT for the professional who turns 25 in mid-March.
“Yeah, growing up with Jayden, obviously, to see him go back-to-back was super inspiring,” Jarvis told SportsBoom.co.za.
“And then obviously, I knew our games were pretty similar. I know how good he is. So I think that helped me with my wins.”
“Yeah, I mean, it's great going back-to-back. Obviously, you've got a lot of confidence from winning Kenya and just kind of rode that wave last week and ended up winning. So yeah, it's super fantastic.”
Jarvis Aims for Historic DPWT Win at Joburg Open
As Jarvis, playing in the Joburg Open this week, goes in search of joining the elite company of Seve Ballesteros and Nick Faldo, who are the only golfers to have won three weeks in a row on the DPWT, he is trying to avoid the extra pressure that the historic milestone would bring.
“I mean, I'll try to keep them low because I know if I get them too high, then I try too hard."
“So I think we all start at the same score at the start of the tournament. So I think just go out, play my game and see what happens.”
Realistically, Jarvis will be pleased to get to some well-earned time off after the Joburg Open, and he plans to spend his downtime appropriately.
“Yeah, I've got a week off next week to celebrate the last couple of weeks, so I think I'll do just that.”
