Teenage Nigerian defender Akpe Victory has emerged as a subject of transfer interest with several European clubs vying to secure his signature this summer, Sportsboom can exclusively reveal.

Victory, 19, is viewed as one of the most exciting talents in the Hungarian top flight after starring for his side Zalaegerszegi this term.

Portuguese side Benfica have been credited with interest in the past month, while Scottish Premiership giants Rangers are said to be 'very close to submitting an offer' for the player.

SportsBoom can confirm Swiss side Basel and Czech's Viktoria Plzeň have both thrown their hats in the ring, with the latter's offer falling below Zalaegerszegi's valuation of their star asset.

PRECOCIOUSLY GIFTED

Akpe had only joined Zalaegerszegi in January 2026, with a valuation of €100k on Transfermarkt, but reports suggest there are no fewer than six confirmed clubs interested in taking him this summer.

The 6ft 5in defender has made 18 appearances in all competitions for the club this season, with sources who had gone to observe him at close quarters returning with rave reviews about his ability.

Rangers are in the market for defensive reinforcements and could try to dangle the chance at playing in the Europa League, but it remains to be seen if any of the other suitors could firm up their interests in the player valued in excess of €5 million.

Zalaegerszegi are open to cashing in on the Nigerian, but have maintained their valuation of the centreback must be met with the suitors who keep calling in to make inquiries.

Akpe began his professional career in Lithuania with FK Banga in February 2025, before he was snapped up on a free by Zalaegerszegi, who are now set for a mouthwatering windfall should they be able to complete any potential deal this summer.

With interest in the towering teenager continuing to grow across Europe, Zalaegerszegi are now bracing themselves for what could become one of the most talked-about transfer battles involving an emerging Nigerian talent this summer.

Our sources suggest the Scottish giants have made a strong impression, and their track record with Nigerian players could work heavily in their favour. Experienced internationals like Leon Balogun and Cyriel Dessers may also play a role in convincing Akpe that Ibrox is the ideal next step for his development. While Benfica is arguably the biggest name in the running on paper, there could be concerns over whether regular first-team football would come as quickly in Portugal.
