SportsBoom has learned that former Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu shot-stopper Richard Ofori is likely to join Kaizer Chiefs as the Soweto giants look to widen their goalkeeping options this season.

Ofori To Chiefs

A little over two weeks remain until the transfer window closes in South Africa, and SportsBoom has learned that Kaizer Chiefs are making more moves behind the scenes to strengthen the squad.

Earlier in the transfer window, Chiefs brought on the likes of Thabo Moloisane and Langelihle Phili, in a move to rejuvenate the squad ahead of a busy season.

SportsBoom has learned that Chiefs are looking to add Ghana international Ofori to their roster.

Ofori is currently a free agent, with his contract having reached its end at AmaZulu over the winter.

SportsBoom understands that Chiefs' decision to bring on Ofori is motivated by the nature of the season that is ahead of them, with the Johannesburg-based side set to compete in the CAF Confederations Cup in addition to the domestic competitions, having finished third on the log standings last season.

Chiefs signed goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner in the current transfer window to be cover for captain and first-choice shot-stopper Brandon Petersen.

Now, with the likelihood of Ofori's addition to the squad, Chiefs will look like a much more complete team given the vast experience that Ofori would bring to the environment.

Petersen Blunders

Chiefs captain Petersen has found himself under intense scrutiny this season, having been involved in numerous blunders that have eventually cost the team dearly.

In their contest against Golden Arrows in the MTN8 Quarterfinals, his mistake led to Arrows' solitary goal, an error that saw the team lose the match and fall out of what is the new season's first opportunity to earn silverware.

Shortly after the mistake against Arrows, Petersen found himself the centre of the critics, as he failed to complete a routine clearance off the back pass from defender Moloisane, leading to a goal that saw Chiefs drop points as they drew the Betway Premiership contest 2-2 against Richards Bay.

Given the busyness of the season for Chiefs and the errors Petersen has made thus far, an experienced goalkeeper such as Ofori would bring value to the side as they look to contest for silverware this season.
