Pitso Mosimane Bafana Bafana Talks Risk Collapse With Gus Poyet and Giovanni Solinas in Frame

SportsBoom has learned that the ongoing negotiations between Pitso Mosimane and the South African Football Association for the Bafana Bafana Head Coach role are likely to break down, with Uruguayan Gus Poyet and Italian Giovanni Solinas lurking behind the scenes as candidates for the position.

Mosimane Talks Breakdown

It was reported that SAFA’s NEC has approved Pitso Mosimane to be the successor to former Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos; however, the deal is yet to be signed as negotiations are still ongoing behind the scenes.

Initially, it was reported that the negotiations centred on his salary, as he was offered a significantly lower figure than what former coach Broos took home per annum.

After that was somewhat resolved with Mosimane reportedly getting a similar figure to Broos, the negotiations revolved around Mosimane getting to come with his own technical staff, including fitness/conditioning coach Kabelo Rangoaga and performance/data analyst Musi Matlaba.

Currently, SportsBoom has learned that the negotiations are about the conflict of interest that Mosimane’s appointment will likely bring.

Mosimane is also a personal brand with his own image rights, given that he has his own podcast titled Changing The Game with Pitso.

SportsBoom has been told that SAFA is currently negotiating with Mosimane to gain some control or have the power to restrict the manager, as he will be representing the nation and SAFA should he assume the position.

Sources have revealed that the talks are likely to break down, and that candidate Gustavo Poyet, who is also a former Chelsea FC player, is still lurking behind the scenes for the post.

However, Poyet is also reportedly linked with the Algeria head coach role, which makes the situation that much more interesting.

Former Kaizer Chiefs manager Giovanni Solinas is also believed to be a candidate.

Support for Pitso

Former Bafana coach Hugo Broos has been quoted as having emphasised that he believes Mosimane will take Bafana five years backwards, a statement that somewhat reveals his position on Mosimane taking over as his successor.

However, SportsBoom reported a few weeks ago that the likes of Thabo Nthethe, the former Mamelodi Sundowns defender, believe that Mosimane is the right man for the job.

Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie has also been very vocal in his support for Mosimane,  a feat that paints a vivid picture that Mosimane has the support from within the country.
