Following a tough period on loan at Kaizer Chiefs for the 27-year-old forward Khanyisa Mayo, it seems the writing is on the wall that he is likely to return to CR Belouizdad upon the end of his loan deal on June 30th.
Who would have thought that Mayo would find himself in this situation? Probably no one, especially considering that his joining of Kaizer Chiefs was something of a fairytale, given that his father, Patrick Mayo, also donned the gold and black stripes of the Amakhosi.
Loan Nearing Its End
However, seven months into his loan deal in Naturena, Mayo's future with the club rather looks grim, having played a total of 157 minutes this year in only five matches.
Even in the fixtures that he played, he only started once, while coming on as a substitute in the rest of the matches, as the coaching duo of Cedric Khaze and Khalid Ben Youssef have continued to overlook him.
Yes, this is the same forward who once earned the PSL Golden Boot award while playing for Cape Town City, as he is yet to be able to replicate the same form for the Amakhosi.
With his loan deal now in its last legs, with a little over three months left, SportsBoom.co.za understands that the 27-year-old is more likely to board a flight back to Algeria.
Sead Ramović Factor
This move will force the forward to go back to playing under Sead Ramovic, the very same coach who could not fit him into his plans or style of play, a set of circumstances that led to many interpreting his loan deal to Chiefs as him being 'dumped' instead of released.
It makes matters even worse, given that Ramovic is also rumoured to be one of the leading candidates for the head coach role at Kaizer Chiefs.
If he could not play Mayo in Algeria, why would he play him at Chiefs if the deal were to happen?
South Africa legend and UEFA Champions League Benni McCarthy is also linked with the Kaizer Chiefs head coach role, and given his liking for playing youngsters, he would be Mayo's best bet should he remain at Chiefs.
