SportsBoom.co.za has learned that the Siwelele Football Club has an interest in signing forward Sipho Mbule following his exit from the Betway Premiership Champions, Orlando Pirates.

Orlando Pirates Exit

There are very few players who can go toe to toe with Sipho Mbule in terms of talent and skill.

In the country, Mbule is right up there with some of the most naturally gifted players.

On the park, when he is in rhythm, he is almost impossible to stop and is a nightmare for opposition defenders.

As a result, when he joined Orlando Pirates last year, a club filled with talented players, including Oswin Appollis and Relebohile Mofokeng, who has been linked with a flash move to Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco, it seemed a match made in heaven.

However, given his past reputation as a bad boy off the pitch, the Buccaneers only signed him for one year with an option to further extend.

Despite winning the Carling Black Label Cup and the League with Orlando Pirates, the club announced last week that it would not be extending Mbule's contract, meaning that, at the end of the month, Mbule will likely be a free agent.

The club's reasons are believed to have been based on his loss of form toward the end of the season, and also his reputation off the field.

Furthermore, Mbule would have received the news while still coming to terms with missing out on the Bafana Bafana 2026 FIFA World Cup squad.

Mbule played in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) earlier this year, playing a key role for Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos.

The 28-year-old was certainly one of the few players with their names pencilled down for the World Cup following the AFCON.

However, lack of form and game time at his domestic club, Orlando Pirates, meant that Broos had to look elsewhere and leave Mbule behind as Bafana headed to Mexico for the FIFA World Cup opener.

Siwelele FC

SportsBoom.co.za has learned that Siwelele FC are keen to give the midfielder his new home.

It is a no-brainer that clubs are still keen to give the 28-year-old a chance. After all, Mbule is a talent like no other.

Siwelele FC, having only returned to the top flight this past season through the purchase of the SuperSport FC status, can do with a talent like Mbule.

Given that the club finished 10th on the log, Mbule could add the much-needed flair in the midfield and help the club become serious cup contenders next season.

If the deal is finalised, Mbule will join Bafana Bafana teammate Ricardo Goss to make up what would be a formidable squad for the Bloemfontein-based unit.

This feels like a classic high-upside, high-risk gamble from Siwelele FC. Mbule’s ceiling is obvious, but so are the question marks around consistency and off-field factors. If we were hedging bets, this is the kind of move you back in a rotation role rather than banking on him being the main creative force from day one.
