With Kaizer Chiefs expected to appoint a new coach ahead of the 2026/27 season, several players could be handed a fresh opportunity to stake their claim for a regular place in the team.

One player who could benefit from a clean slate is striker Tashreeq Morris, who endured a frustrating 2025/26 campaign with limited game time and spent much of the season on the sidelines.

With strong competition from Flavio Silva, Khanyisa Mayo and Ashley du Preez, opportunities were hard to come by for the striker.

The centre forward marked his first appearance of the campaign with a goal against Sekhukhune United, helping Chiefs secure a third-place finish and qualification for next season's CAF Confederation Cup.

He also featured in the club's final three matches of the season, providing a platform to build on heading into the new campaign.

His lack of game time has naturally fuelled speculation over his future with the Soweto giants, with many expecting him to seek a move elsewhere in pursuit of regular football.

However, despite the uncertainty surrounding his role in the squad, Morris remains committed to fighting for his place at the club.

Agent Talks

Speaking to SportsBoom.co.za, the player's agent, Glyn Binkin, revealed that Morris remains focused on his future with Amakhosi and is not currently considering a move away.

"At this stage, we are all focused on his contract with Chiefs," Binkin told SportsBoom.co.za.

"I am sure we will meet with the club and discuss the way forward, but the player is happy at Chiefs and is still happy to fight for his place in the starting line-up."

The comments come at a time when the Chiefs are expected to change ahead of the new season.

Frenchman Fernando da Cruz has been widely linked with the head coaching role following the departures of co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze.

His arrival could bring renewed competition for places and a fresh opportunity for players such as Morris as the Chiefs look to close the gap on Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns next season.

No Loan Move

Binkin also dismissed suggestions that a loan move could be an option for the striker.

"Not at this stage," he said when asked whether Morris could be sent out on loan.

While questions remain over his long-term future, Morris still has time remaining on his current deal.

"He still has another season remaining on his contract, so at this stage we'll have to wait and see what the Chiefs say regarding his future, but as I say, he does have another year remaining until 30 June 2027," he concluded.

Morris appears set to stay and fight for his place rather than seek an exit. With a new coach expected, the striker could yet emerge as a dark horse to earn more minutes next season, a factor worth monitoring in Kaizer Chiefs squad and goalscorer betting markets.
