Sources have revealed to SportsBoom that South Africa's youngest football prodigy, the 21-year-old Mofokeng, is close to being unveiled as the new Union Saint-Gilloise player.
This comes after the youngster had an impressive run in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he played a pivotal role in helping Bafana Bafana reach the round of 32 for the first time in history with a 1-0 victory over South Korea and a draw against Czechia to finish second in Group A, behind co-hosts Mexico.
USG & Pirates Deal
SportsBoom has learned that the Union Saint-Gilloise and Orlando Pirates are close to a club-to-club agreement, one that could possibly see the 21-year-old prodigy apply his trade in Belgium, where opportunities are endless.
It has been revealed that Mofokeng will likely pen a four-year deal with the Belgian Pro League side and become yet another South African youngster to sign an overseas deal, following Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Puso Dithejane, who joined Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer earlier this year.
Mofokeng recently concluded a stellar season with the Buccaneers, scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists in 28 appearances in the Betway Premiership, a season that will likely see him receive multiple PSL award nominations, including the Footballer of the Season award.
Mofokeng went on to win his first-ever Betway Premiership with Orlando Pirates, a feat that seems to cap off the youngster's career here at home, and one that will leave the Orlando Pirates fans satisfied in that the youngster helped the club achieve great things before his likely departure.
Mofokeng will not be the first South African talent to sign for Union Saint-Gilloise, as Percy Tau spent a season with them in 2018/19, during which he was on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Previous Rumoured Transfers
Mofokeng has been on the radar of many teams in Europe. Earlier this year, AS Monaco, the French giants, were rumoured to have shown interest in signing the youngster.
Given the youngster's speed, explosiveness and pure talent, Mofokeng's name has understandably been the topic of interest in many clubs all around the world as the youngster has continued to impress locally, on the continent and on the world stage at the tender age of 21.
